After studying medicine at Leeds University and qualifying in 1990 I worked at St James’s Hospital, the famous ‘Jimmys’ of the 90’s TV series, and trained in surgery in the Yorkshire region. Along the way I completed a PhD in molecular genetics for research carried out under Professor Sir Alex Markham. I trained in weight loss surgery in Leeds with Mr Stephen Pollard, one of the pioneers of bariatric surgery in the UK, who had recently returned from a period learning the roux-en-Y gastric bypass directly from the great Harvey J Sugerman in Virginia USA. I was appointed as a consultant in laparoscopic and upper gastrointestinal surgery at University Hospital Aintree, Liverpool in 2005. Esther and I and our 3 children live in Southport and when I’m not working, I spend most of my free time coaching our eldest’s mini rugby team! Feel free to drop me a line on any matter in the box below. I look forward to hearing from you.
